धर्म-
धर्म का शाब्दिक अर्थ होता है, 'धारण करने योग्य'सबसे उचित धारणा, अर्थात जिसे सबको धारण करना चाहिये'।
या जिसे धारण किया जा सके वह धर्म है।

“धार्यते इति धर्म:” इसका मतलब है जो धारण करते है वहीं धर्म कहलाता है अथवा लोक और परलोक के सुखों की सिद्धि के लिए सार्वजनिक पवित्र गुणों व कर्मो को धारण करना ही धर्म माना गया है

श्रूयतां धर्म सर्वस्वं श्रुत्वा चैव अनुवर्त्यताम्।
आत्मनः प्रतिकूलानि, परेषां न समाचरेत्“।।
    -धर्म का सर्वस्व क्या है, सुनो और सुनकर उस पर चलो ! अपने को जो अच्छा न लगे, वैसा आचरण दूसरे के साथ नही करना चाहिये।

मानव के लिए धर्म मनसा, वाचा, कर्मणा होता है। यह केवल क्रिया या कर्मों से सम्बन्धित नहीं है बल्कि धर्म चिन्तन और वाणी से भी संबंधित है।

धर्म कि कसौटी-
जो अपने अनुकूल न हो वैसा व्यवहार दूसरे के साथ नहीं करना चाहिये।

हिन्दू, मुस्लिम, ईसाई, जैन या बौद्ध आदि धर्म न होकर सम्प्रदाय या समुदाय मात्र हैं। “सम्प्रदाय” एक परम्परा के मानने वालों का समूह है।
